The Drum or Spirit Horse
The drum is one of the most important tools a Shaman can have. It has a multitude of uses. It can
cleanse a space or person of dense and inappropriate energy. It can be used as a diagnostic tool when
treating someone. It can beat a rhythm for a ceremony. It can mirror the heart beat of Mother Earth to
aid in Her healing. It is known as a Spirit Horse as it can take the practitoner on a journey to the Spirit
World to gather information.

the Spirits when creating Sacred Space; be used to aid diagnosis
when treating. When it is inappropriate to use smudging herbs
(eg if someone has an allergy, or indoors if smoke alarms are
present, a rattle is invaluable). It is small and easily transported.
It serves to unwind chakras for healing and to dislodge toxic
energy in the aura.

or bone. It can be used to answer simple yes or no questions by seeing which direction it
moves, in response to those queries. Pendulums can also be used for unwinding chakras

abalone shell (at left). The herbs are lit and then whafted by
use of a feather. This symbolises all of the elements - the
shell for Water, the herbs for Earth, the feather for Air and of
course the fire to light the herbs.
